LASER HARDFACING OF OIL DRILLING EQUIPMENT

Part Dimensions & Base Material

The FLEXCELL robotic laser welding cell is designed to accommodate the following part dimensions...

  • Length - up to 30 ft.
  • Diameter - up to 18”
  • Weight - up to 5 tons

...in a large variety of shapes and geometries.

HYPROTECT can be applied to a wide variety of base materials including stainless steels, inconel and other austenitic alloys

LWS is using the following materials for its hardfacing process:

  • Super Bond - a Nickel based buffer alloy developed to:
    • Enhance adhesion & impact resistance
    • Compensate thermal stresses
  • Super M-1 - a Nickel alloy matrix w/ spherical tungsten carbide particles designed to maximize abrasive wear resistance
  • LASER DWC - a copper based alloy matrix w/ natural & synthetic diamonds

Hardfacing Layer Dimensions

The HYPROTECT cladding process allows us to adapt clad layer dimensions exactly to customer specifications. The typical range for oil field applications are:

  • Single Layer Thickness: 0.004” - 0.1” (0.1 - 2.5 mm)
  • Single Track Width: 0.02” - 0.24” (0.5 - 6 mm)

Layers are stackable to further increase protection of the original surface.
